Tour of Gulfport Energy Corporation

A goal of Tech Prep is to help bridge the gap between education and business. We are always seeking avenues to help create pathways for our CTE students .Gulfport Energy’s HSE Walter Powell, along with Southeast Tech Prep Chief Administrator, Katie Good, Tech Prep Coordinators, Tara Addornetto, and Amanda Parker, ECOESC Executive Director of Workforce Development and Students Wellness, Jeremy Vitteck, and Belmont – Harrison Career Center’s Director of Career technical Education, Heather Austin, had the opportunity this April to spend a day with the gas and oil company Gulfport Energy Corporation, located St.Clairsville, OH.
Gulfport’s team spent the morning educating our group on the local exploration and production of natural gas from the local various shale formations. We learned a small slice of what goes into this field of work from the beginnings of exploration, land, drilling all the way through distribution, regulation, and monitoring.
The second half of the day was spent touring a local drilling well pad. There we met with several vendors, all with their own vital roles in the well drilling process. Our conversations covered many topics, but our main focus was directed on the skills our students need to fulfill these jobs. We also spoke at great length about what we can take back to educators and students.
We hope this meeting will set in motion a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Gulfport energy and our local schools districts!
