Career Exploration at Chesapeake Middle School: A CTE Best Practice

Chesapeake Middle School partners with Collins Career Technical Center to provide career exploration for all students in grades 6–8 through the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway course.

Using a rotating nine-week model, students participate in a Career Exploration course during one period of the school day while rotating through gym, art, and wellness throughout the year. This approach ensures equitable access to career-connected learning for all students and supports early exposure to career pathways—recognized as a best practice in middle school career technical education. The model has proven successful at Chesapeake and has been replicated in other middle schools across the county.

State News

We are pleased to share that applications are now open for the Jim Pinchak Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of our late friend and mentor, Dr. Jim Pinchak. Dr. Pinchak was a lifelong educator whose dedication to career-technical education left a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and programs across Ohio.

This scholarship was established in 2019 by the Ohio Career-Technical Administrators Association (OCTA) to support outstanding senior students who are continuing their training after completing a CTE program. Dr. Pinchak’s legacy as a teacher, administrator, and leader inspires this opportunity to help students take their next step toward a successful future.

Scholarship Awards:

  • Two $1,000 awards per OCTA Region
