News From The Department of ODEW

WorkKeys Assessments

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is updating the “Workforce Readiness” score for the WorkKeys Assessments. Based on updates to the assessments and review of score alignments to job readiness, the Department will shift the required competency score to the Silver National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). This level equates to a minimum score of “4” on each of the three assessments: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents.

This score will be effective for the 2024-2025 school year for students utilizing WorkKeys as part of their pathway through high school graduation, and immediately for adult learners using WorkKeys to complete their Adult Diploma requirements. If a learner would like to use a previously obtained score on the assessments to apply to these new requirements, they may do so by reaching out to their relevant education partners.

For any questions about the score change and secondary graduation requirements reach out to the Graduate Success team at gradrequirements@education.ohio.gov. For any questions about the score change and Adult Options programs reach out to the Adult Options team at highschoolcontinuation@education.ohio.gov

Is your district ready to expand career pathway opportunities for your students?

The Department invites local school districts to attend upcoming Career Pathway Development Workshops. The workshops will equip school and district administrators with the knowledge, strategies and tools needed to create effective, quality career pathways for students.

Who might be ready for these workshops? Schools and/or districts who have leaders and communities committed to developing or increasing workforce readiness programming for their students. Particularly ready schools and/or districts might already have some pathways or are implementing workforce readiness programs to a lesser extent already.

If you are interested in the Career Pathway Development Workshop, please reach out to Katie Good, katie.good@ecoesc.org.
